Programs & Structure
the structure for the major groups we treat in RO/Standard DBT
Adults: 18 and over. We use Dr. Linehan's newly revised manual (yeah!). Our unique teaching method utilizes visual, auditory, and interactive learning in each class to maximize the learning and retention of material by our students. We have separate skills classes for DBT and RO-DBT. In addition to attending a 90-120 min. skills class each week, there is also a individual RO/Standard DBT therapy session in which targets are covered, skills are applied, and therapy progresses in skills building to ensure hope and willingness to engage in life-saving and life-changing methods.
Families: this applies to families of loved ones who are emotionally struggling...this encompasses parents of adult people, spouses of those suffering, as well as parents of adolescents who come for treatment. Alec Miller's groundbreaking collaborative work with Marsha Linehan work and outline are employed in the structure of this program. Classes are focused on teaching skills to elicit wanted behaviors, goal directed and purposeful behaviors from loved ones in a manner that builds and repairs relationships. One on one coaching and scripting sessions are available per request--to learn which words to use and how to use them to get the results that you are seeking.
Adolescents: this program is for children up to the age of 18, or until graduation from high school. Families attend the program collectively, with each party working on skills to foster desired relationships, reduce/eliminate life threatening and quality of life threatening behaviors, and encourage goals and skills building.
Children: we treat children who are appropriate for skills in emotional regulation.
Couples: Our work with couples centers on the focused treatment protocol that Dr. Alan Fruzzetti has developed. His book, "The High Conflict Couple" is assigned for reading by each party. Therapeutic structure for couples takes several forms with the options of individual therapy for each person, skills for the couple taught together, and couples' counseling done with each party's therapist present for the session. We have seen amazing results at achieving clarity and function in relationships with this methods. Definitely one of the most structured and progressive methods to allow for healing in relationships.
