Specialty Services:
Programs & Structure
Being the oldest clinic in Georgia, for Dialectical Behavior Therapy Treatment, we have a long history in the southeast (and further west) with providing quality, adherent, sustaining therapy.
Our therapists not only get Intensively Trained in DBT, but also in every other form of evidence based therapies available. In addition, they also pursue additional specialty education in areas of particular treatment focus.
Specialty focus for our therapists has been in: substance abuse disorders, eating disorders, adolescent therapeutic issues, specialized work in validation theory, extended coursework in behavioral analysis, suicide protocols, treating people with multiple issues, and refining the abiity to excel as a classroom skills trainer.
Much of the focus at Atlanta DBT is on protecting the fidelity of the treatment. We don't 'water it down' to make it appealing, or convenient. There are necessary ingredients to allow for developing the promising treatment outcomes that you see in the literature--that are to be not just provided, but in a specific manner. Our patients have been through so much--that for many, this is a 'last chance' therapy attempt...it's now or never. We want to make sure to the best of our ability, that the delivery of therapy is everything it was meant to be.
The unique aspects of Atlanta DBT come not only in delivery of the material--an innovative method not seen in the US as of yet, but also in the decision to keep the practice at a level where quality, not quantity is foremost. The three therapists here function like a family, allowing patients to get to know each therapist, their strengths, their perspectives. Every patient is given the opportunity to meet each therapist--and find the right fit. Our patients state that coming to Atlanta DBT is "different than anywhere else before"--in warmth, receptivity, genuiness, and the type of comittment seen in us. The difference? We enjoy getting to know our patients, and making the most of their time with us.
It is not unusual for a therapist with free time to offer themselves up for a 'chat' with another therapists' patient. Our couples & family sessions generally speaking, will have 2 therapists in there, to avoid polarity in working with the couple/family members.
We don't "do" DBT--it's not something to be 'done' and then put away. We are dialectical behavior therapy practicioners, and we look forward to adding you to our family.
